Evgeny Grigorievich Filippov, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, associate professor in breeding and seed production, has devoted more than 40 years of his scientific activity to breeding work at the FSBSI “ARC “Donskoy”, starting as a senior laboratory assistant, then as a junior researcher, senior researcher, head of a laboratory. Since 2000, he is the head of the department of winter and spring barley breeding and seed production.
E.G. Filippov supervised the development of 33 barley varieties, including 11 winter varieties, 13 spring and 9 facultative varieties, which obtained 32 copyright certificates, 23 patents. Currently 4 varieties are being studied in the State Variety Testing of the Russian Federation and other countries. These varieties have been included in the State List of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation (5, 6, 7, 8, 12 regions), Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. The varieties possess a high genetic potential for productivity, ecological adaptability, resistance to lodging and disease. There were also developed new directions in breeding, such as development of two-row brewing winter barley varieties with high malt indicators; development of fodder spring barley varieties (green feed).
From 2000 to 2021, E.G. Filippov was the scientific advisor of 7 graduate students, among whom 4 graduate students successfully defended their research works, 1 graduate student was admitted to defense in 2021 and 2 graduate students are currently conducting the study.
E.G. Filippov has published 230 research works in domestic and foreign journals, including 7 books and 11 methodical recommendations.
For the development of varieties E.G. Filippov was awarded with the Silver Medal of the Exhibition of Economic Achievements of the USSR (1990), the Gold Medals (2007, 2016), the Silver Medals (2013, 2018) and the Bronze Medals (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019) of the All-Russian Exhibition Center. For the fruitful work E.G. Filippov was awarded with Certificates of Honor and Acknowledgments, among which Certificate of Honor of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (2004), Certificate of Honor of the Stavropol Ministry of Agriculture (2005), Gratitude of the Legislative Assembly of the Rostov Region (2005), ‘Thank you Letter’ from the Governor of the Rostov Region (2008), ‘Thank you Letter’ from Ministry of Agriculture of the Rostov region (2016) and others.
Since the beginning of the publication of the journal “Grain Economy of Russia”, E.G. Filippov was a member of the editorial board, and since April 2021 he is the chief editor of the journal.
